Custom foot orthotics (inserts) are a medical device made from carbon fiber or thermoplastic moulded to a cast of your feet then placed inside your footwear. They are commonly prescribed following a thorough biomechanical assessment and gait analysis to correct abnormal mechanics of the lower limb which can place undue load and forces on muscles, tendons and ligaments leading to overuse, strain and injury.
Custom foot orthotics can help relieve pain and fatigue associated with improper foot biomechanics including flat feet, fallen arches or overpronation, heel pain, arch pain and plantar fasciitis, bunions, hammertoes, foot, knee, hip and back pain.
Custom orthotics are not covered by OHIP, but are often covered by extended health benefits.
